Hi folks,
This not is in regards some comments made in the thread "Posting
Etiquette (FAQ)".
I wanted to jump in and clear up what might be a little
misunderstanding about my role here at RAFC. I am in no way in charge
nor do I have any official standing here at all. RAFC is an
unmoderated group and therefore every single person has the same
"authority" and standing.
Since late Spring, I have been posting the Aquaria FAQs to the entire
rec.aquaria and alt.aquaria heirarchies, in addition to sci.aquaria.
This is only as a courtesy to the FAQ team and not because I'm
anybody.
In my opinion, the Aquaria FAQs are an excellent source of information
on fishkeeping and Usenet etiquette. However, the people that created
and maintain the FAQs stopped frequenting the newsgroups some time
ago. About two years ago, Mr. Erik Olson (who maintains The Krib, home
to the Aquaria FAQs) stopped posting them to the groups because he
simply doesn't use the newsgroups any more.
In the summer of 1998, because of the high volume of posts here at
RAFC, I created the newsgroup alt.aquaria.oscars so Oscar keepers
could have a place to discuss astronotus without sifting through all
the other posts at RAFC. At the time, Erik was still posting the FAQs
throughout the rec.aquaria heirarchy and I asked as a courtesy if he
could post them at alt.aquaria.oscars, too. He agreed, and regular
posts began to appear. Then, about two years ago, the FAQ postings
stopped. However, the WWW version was still maintained and updated at
the Krib.
This past Spring, it occured to me that I hadn't seen the regular
posting of the FAQs at alt.aquaria.oscars in some time, so I contacted
Erik and asked if he minded if I began to post links to the FAQ WWW
site. He contacted the other members of the FAQ team and no one had
any objections, so I began posting the FAQs at that time. So, you see,
the only thing I'm doing is helping to make the information in the
FAQs available by posting links periodically, and I'm not in any
position of "authority" or anything like that.
If I've given the impression that I'm in charge or somehow in
authority or official here at RAFC, please accept my apologies! I'm
just another poster and I don't mean to leave that impression.
Thanks all!
