<<duplicate sent seperately to mm.flash>>
Ok... here's the idea;
I'd like to see if MM is willing to auto-post a FAQ at some regular
interval that is specific to Flash, and would cover some basics for
mm.flash and mm.f.sitedesign. To help them out, 'we, the people,'
should write the thing. I haven't approached MM yet, nor any
representatives, so this may be as far as it gets if they nix it (which
doesn't preclude an unofficial FAQ).
Here's what I propose as a place to start... just a set of general
guidelines that will help with some of the stuff that seems to be
recurrent, containing information from both MM and the Flash community
at large. No tutorials, no rewriting the current MM FAQ on discussion
groups, no moralizing on the evils of this, that, or the other.
However, some things I think would be useful are:
Links to the MM general FAQs
Links to solid, well-known tutorial and open-source sites, perhaps some
outstanding examples
When to post to which group
Reviews of books, or links to reviews
Every other line should say: Read Your Manual! <g>
Brief overview of "how to know what to ask" and searching newsgroups
???
The point is to keep it short and informative, so the reader isn't
daunted by 40+ screens to scroll through, which, I guess, eliminates me
from writing it...
Now, I realize that FAQs are more-oft writ than read, and perhaps the
pat response in the group will become "Read the FAQ" (like i've seen
happen in other groups). So my question to you (all) is this; what do
you think??
I'd be happy to get the ball rolling, if people are willing to
contribute ideas and content, but I'd like to get some reaction (in the
group, please!) before diving into this. Everyone is invited to
comment, but please do us all one favor; make it constructive. If you
think the idea is only slightly better than being covered with paper
cuts and rolling in raw sewage, say so in a nice way (this is an example
of 'counter-example'... so to speak).
Thanks for your time and bandwidth,
Scott Valentine
