Welcome to the houston.general newsgroup! This
newsgroup exists to facilitate discussions that
don't fit elsewhere in the houston newsgroup
hierarchy, but are still related to the Houston
Metropolitan area.
Some General Guidelines
Before posting to *any* newsgroup, you should
read the articles in news.announce.newusers.
These articles provide much insight into the
niceties of newsgroups, including appropriate
netiquette when posting.
Discussions that relate to the Houston
Metropolitan area that don't fit into the other
newsgroups in the houston hierarchy are welcome
here. In the future, another monthly message
posted to this group will list the current
houston hierarchy, so be sure to check that out
before you post. There are a number of news
groups (those in the houston.jobs group,
houston.forsale and houston.wanted) which are
not discussion groups. Discussions relating to
articles in those groups are welcome here.
Discussions that are not specifically regional
should be posted elsewhere (e.g. General
state-wide issues should be posted to
tx.general.).
Advertising in any form is not allowed. That's
why we have houston.forsale. Commercial
advertising is definitely not allowed. Nobody
is interested in paying to have your business
advertised to them. A recommended explanation
of how this works can be found at
http://spam.abuse.net/ (Who's computer is this?)
Chain letters like MAKE.MONEY.FAST are not
permitted, and will cause you to lose your
account at many ISPs. Other hoaxes, like
the Code*ADAM chain letter (not profit-
motivated) are likewise frowned upon. Please
keep this in mind before wasting already-tight
network resources.
Excessive crossposting is disallowed. This
includes not only the obvious posting to
both houston.forsale and houston.general,
but also posting to tx.general, austin.general
and houston.general. While it is not
necessarily a poor decision, you should make
sure that your post directly relates and
interests parties in all groups.
*Comments on this article**
Comments on this article are welcome. Please
send them via email to me at the address listed
in the header of this article. Note that often
the sender will various methods to
"poison" this address for mass email
harvesters. Manually examine the email address,
and remove parts that obviously should not be
there (example, johnm5@ukmail.NOSPAM.uk should
be johnm5@ukmail.uk). Many posters use similar
methods.
